Biography for Bahia Shortlidge

Director of Operations

Bahia graduated from Melrose High School in 2005 with high honors and a member of the national honors society.  She was Varsity Field Hockey Captain,  a Certified Peer Mediator, and National Honor Society member in high school.  She went on to study for 2 years at New York University as an honor student (3.6 gpa) in the Gallatin School of Independent Studdies.  She then took a break from academia and decided to explore the world traveling throughout Europe, India and the United States.

She perviously worked as a Certified Sailing Instructor at Newport Harbor Yacht Club in California and as Operations Manager of Sweredoski Farms, local pesticide-free farming, in the Los Angeles area.  She thrives in an educational working enviornment that creates community, empowerment and familiarity with other people and our Earth. 


"The work I most enjoys is working on behalf of causes that  are important locally and to the world at large.  These causes include local farming, movement; physical, mental, and spiritual wellness, conscious music,  community building, youth and teen empowerment, and creative arts: painting, writing, singing, acting, etc."

Bahia is reviewing footage of a staff training outing to Kalalau Valley where she and others practiced survival skills training and engaged in stewardship activities.

Bahia is learning to play guitar and sing. Recently the Kauai Center helped her professionally record five of her new songs. Her first-ever music video is below....

Bahia is learning how to shoot, edit, broadcast, and market her music to local and global audiences using the latest in video, computer and telecommunications technology. 

As Director of Operations her task is to hone her skills of this process and streamline it for others while continuing to record new music, videos and other forms of art for herself and Kauai Center.
